Fall 2022 Capsule Wardrobe – 32 Items for a Casual Chic Style

Fall is officially here, and I already feel the cooler weather in the mornings and evenings. If you’ve been following my blog, you probably already know I’m an autumn girl. I love the coziness and the magic of nature when it wears its warm colors.

I have been contemplating whether I should build my fall capsule now or wait for the weather to get colder. It felt a bit early for me to prepare myself for the new season, knowing I won’t be able to wear many of the pieces from the capsule yet. However, since I already know what my fall wardrobe staples are and which items I’d like to keep from my summer capsule, I found it relatively easy to start building my fall capsule wardrobe early. Hopefully, this will also inspire your wardrobe if you live in a colder area where fall starts earlier.

Capsule Wardrobe Planning – Finding Inspiration

My fall mood board on Pinterest mixes elegant, tailored silhouettes and casual items. I love a warm brown color palette in autumn and a minimal black touch. My favorite prints are stripes and checked, and my staples are blazers, button-ups, and denim. I’ve also been drawn to waistcoats lately, and I’d like to incorporate one into my wardrobe this season.

I use my mood board also as a wishlist for the new season. This year, I want to replace my beige knit vest with a new one (mine has pockets at the bottom which I don’t like) and add classic straight-leg denim in a deep blue wash.

Outerwear & Blazers

I chose light outerwear for this capsule since the weather doesn’t get very cold here until December. Blazers are my elevated piece in a casual everyday look. Therefore, I chose three wool blazers alongside my vintage denim jacket and a trench coat.

T-Shirts

Basic t-shirts are great for warmer days. I can layer them under a blazer or a cardigan when the weather gets colder. I chose two basic oversized t-shirts in black and white, a polo t-shirt, and a long sleeve t-shirt with stripes.

Tops & Blouses

Button-up shirts are an all-year staple in my wardrobe. I can easily layer them differently and adjust their sleeve length according to the weather. The current capsule includes two cotton long-sleeved blouses and a denim blouse. A new addition to this capsule is two sleeveless turtleneck tops, perfect for layering when the weather changes.

Knitwear

I chose two basic knits with an open neckline and a beige cardigan. This way, I could layer them over a t-shirt on cooler days. I’ve added them my vintage beige knit vest.

Trousers

Straight, classic-cut pairs of jeans are an item I wear daily. Therefore, I’ve incorporated three pairs of black, beige, and light blue wash jeans. Last year, I added to my wardrobe a pair of flared jeans which I’ve also Incorporated in this capsule. I’ve also added four pairs of tailored trousers in neutral shades to mix things up.

Shoes

Same as last year, I incorporated my Converse and white pair of sneakers. To them, I added black oxfords and brown croc Chelsea boots.

I did not include loungewear, sportswear, pajamas, or accessories other than shoes in my capsule.

Outfit Combinations

Without the extra layer, I can already wear some of the outfits I’ve created here. Others will wait for cooler days. This is a small selection of outfits I created from the pieces in my capsule. There are many more possibilities, and I’ll explore them during the season.

fall capsule outfit ideas

Unlike my summer capsule wardrobe, which I’ve been struggling with, creating a fall capsule felt simple and satisfying. The more I practice it from season to season, the easier it becomes. I also don’t feel the impulse to add new items this season. Everything I need is already in my closet, and it feels great. I hope this feeling will last for the entire season.
