Winter 2024 Capsule Wardrobe – 30 Items for a Casual Chic Style

Post contains adlinks

It is my first winter in London, and despite the cold, everything is beautiful around here. The days before Christmas are magical, and the word cosiness gets a new meaning. This year, I am starting to understand for the first time the feeling of a ‘true winter’ with low temperatures and the need to wear thermals. I have also learned that a good coat is a valuable asset and that I should own more than one coat since there are various levels of ‘coldness’.

So far, I feel that I am well-equipped for the winter months. When building this year’s winter capsule, I was mainly driven by the need to keep myself warm. However, I firmly believe that keeping yourself warm while being stylish is possible. Therefore, I do not feel I had to sacrifice one for the other. The main difference between this capsule and my previous one is that it doesn’t include blazers. I also had to go over my knitwear and store my lightweight knits. They all belong to my fall capsule, and I will probably wear them again in the spring.

Capsule Wardrobe Planning – Finding Inspiration

My winter mood board on Pinterest focuses on items like tailored wool coats, oversized knits, and wool or corduroy trousers that keep me warm on colder days. The colour palette that dominates my wardrobe includes brown, navy, and a pop of red. My layering inspiration for this winter mainly includes using accessories like scarves and bags worn over a heavy coat.

Winter Capsule New Additions

There are currently five new additions to my winter capsule. These include two coats, two knits and one pair of boots. I have brought only one wool coat to London, thinking I’ll buy another here. Luckily, I found a beautiful & Other Stories mink brown wool coat on Vinted in excellent condition, and I love wearing it. I also bought a puffer coat from Vinted in a lovely chocolate brown colour. It took me some time to get used to its bulky shape. However, I find it very useful these days.

The two knits I have bought are new. I purchased a striped knit to replace another one I owned and sold on Vinted. The navy crewneck knit has been on my wish list since last winter, and I have worn it a lot since I bought it. I have made a rule that every item I add to my wardrobe should replace another item I want to part with. Thanks to Vinted, selling pre-loved items is simple and accessible in the UK. Lastly, I have added a pair of casual lace-up boots to my wardrobe. I wear them on weekends when we travel or walk in the park. They are super comfy and practical for walking in the mud.

Items in The Winter Capsule

Outerwear

This winter is all about warm coats for me. I Incorporated two wool coats in navy and mink and a chocolate brown puffer coat. Each one of these coats has a different thickness and warmth. The puffer coat is my warmest coat; the navy coat is 100% wool, and the mink wool coat is 65% wool. This way, I have various options for cold and colder days.

Tops & Button-ups

My tops and button-ups mainly function as a base layer under heavier knits. Sometimes, I also still wear button-ups over a turtleneck. The current capsule includes a denim button-up and an olive green silk button-up. I have also included three turtlenecks in black, beige, and stripes.

Knitwear

I own several types of knits in my winter closet. In recent years, I have been drawn to heavy, chunky knits. I Incorporated into this capsule four basic crew neck knits, a cardigan, two turtleneck knits in brown and beige and a striped knit. As red trends this season, it was the perfect opportunity to take my Everlane red cashmere knit out of storage.

Trousers

I must wear thick trousers or thermal leggings this winter to stay warm. For this reason, my capsule includes warm trousers like corduroy and wool trousers. I also chose three pairs of jeans I can wear with thermals underneath. Alternatively, I have ensured they are made from thicker cotton, so I will only sometimes have to wear an extra layer underneath.

Shoes

The shoes in my capsule include a pair of Converse and three pairs of boots. These include black boots, brown Croc Chelsea boots, and beige lace-up boots.

Outfit Ideas

This is a small selection of the outfit ideas I can create from this capsule. So far, I have been enjoying playing with layers and using my new coats as an extra layer of warmth, which fits harmoniously with my colour palette.

One of the challenges of living in a new country is adjusting to the weather. However, I am excited to explore my wardrobe in a new place. This capsule is mainly practical for my everyday needs and keeps me warm in winter. Nonetheless, it also reflects my style and balances functional and elevated items.
